WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP — The Washington-Centerville Public Library has installed a new adult-size, height-adjustable changing table to improve accessibility for visitors.

The equipment, located at the library at 111 W. Spring Valley Road, is intended to create a more inclusive environment for people with disabilities and their caregivers.

The Montgomery County Board of Developmental Disabilities Services funded the project using American Rescue Plan Act money.
The installation is part of the library’s comprehensive renovation and a larger effort to increase accessibility throughout Montgomery County and Ohio.
The equipment is designed for older children, teenagers, and adults who require personal care assistance.
Unlike standard baby changing stations, this height-adjustable model provides a sanitary and dignified option while allowing caregivers to assist individuals more safely.
Although the need for universal changing tables is increasingly recognized, many businesses and organizations have hesitated to install them because of the cost.
Liz Fultz, director of Washington-Centerville Public Library, said the project serves as a model for public entities working together.
“We are incredibly grateful to the Montgomery County Board of Developmental Disabilities Services for helping make this project possible,” Fultz said. “This is a great example of public entities collaborating to benefit the community. Through partnerships like this, we can make our public spaces more inclusive and ensure that individuals of all abilities have access to the services and opportunities they deserve.”
The changing table will debut during the library’s grand re-opening Celebration on Aug. 30. The event is scheduled to run from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
