Warrant issued for man who ran from deputy -- and left sons behind

The Clark County Sheriff's Office is looking for a Springfield man who ran from a deputy during a traffic stop -- but not before gathering up his drugs and abandoning his two sons.

Khallid Alim Hurt, 24, of the 500 block of Damascus Drive, is being sought on several charges that include:

  • Felony evidence tampering,
  • Felony escape,
  • Misdemeanor endangering children (2 counts),
  • Misdemeanor failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer.

According to the sheriff's office, Hurt was stopped at the intersection of McCreight AVenue and Rodgers just after midnight June 21 because his Chevy Silverado pickup truck had no front license tag and a fake license tag on the rear of the vehicle.

The deputy noticed "probable cause indicators" of possible drug activity and had Hurt and his two sons, ages 3 and 5, get out of the truck.

The deputy had all of them sit at the curb while he searched the vehicle.

The deputy found a "substantial amount of currency" as well as "a substantial quantity of substances suspected to be illegal drugs," according to the sheriff's office, including marijuana, suspected crack cocaine and possible fentanyl.

That led to a more detailed investigation, according to the sheriff's office.

The deputy secured the cash and was getting his camera to document the evidence when "Hurt jumped up from his seated position."

Hurt then scrambled into the truck, retrieved the suspected drugs and drug paraphernalia -- all of which was in a single bag -- and ran.

The deputy ordered Hurt to stop, did not pursue him, and stayed with the children.

The sheriff's office turned the boys over to family members, who were called to the scene.

If you have information regarding Hurt’s whereabouts, you are asked to contact the sheriff's office at 937-328-2560.
