Village of Covington receives grant for first new park in over 100 years

MIAMI COUNTY — The Village of Covington has received a grant of $500,000 through the Land and Water Conservation Fund for the construction of Schoolhouse Park.

Schoolhouse Park would be the first new park in the village in over 100 years, according to a release.

The village has raised more than $1.25 million from grants and private donations towards the park to date.

“We have been working to fundraise and design Schoolhouse Park for over three years, and we are finally ready to build it,” Covington Mayor Ed McCord said in the release. “We are grateful that the State of Ohio Land and Water Conservation Fund Grant committee felt our project was worthy of being one of six projects funded within the entire State of Ohio. We look forward to seeing this dream become a reality”.

The park will be completed in multiple parts, with phase one being starting construction this year.

Schoolhouse Park was one of six projects chosen in the State of Ohio for funding through the Land and Water Conservation Fund.

It is projected to open to the public in 2023.
