Person, dog dead after fire in Dayton; city’s 3rd deadly fire in last 8 days

DAYTON — The Dayton Fire Department (DFD) has released more information on a fire that resulted in the death of one person and a dog.

Firefighters were called out to the 100 block of Bierce Ave at 7:50 p.m. Monday night on reports of a fire. Dayton Fire Captain Brad French said Tuesday that the first crews arrived on scene four minutes later and found the house with “heavy fire conditions.”

News Center 7 was on scene Monday when District Fire Chief David Grubb said crews made an aggressive attack on the fire and entered to look for any occupants. While searching the home they did find one person dead in the front room, which was a living room that had been converted into a bedroom. That person’s identity has not been released at this time.

A deceased dog was also found during the search, French said Tuesday.

While a complete damage estimate is still pending, French said significant fire and smoke damage was sustained throughout the home.

“This incident is the third fatal fire incident in the City of Dayton in 2023. Tragically, a total of seven citizens have lost their lives in fires in the city this year,” French said in a release on Tuesday.

Anyone with information on this fire is asked to call the DFD Fire Investigation Unit at (937)-333-8477.
