Tuesday will be another difficult day for community members and law enforcement officers as they honor Detective Del Rio.
Students at Clearcreek Elementary School wanted to make sure those officers knew how thankful they are for their service.
The students have written more than 200 letters to give to Dayton police and other officers from around the country who will be attending Detective Del Rio’s funeral.
First grade teacher Becky Fluty said as soon as she heard the news of Del Rio’s passing, she wanted to help.
“This was just one of the things I felt like I could help do because kids at this age are so compassionate and kind, and they’re always trying to make people feel better,” she said.
Each letter was written with a heartfelt message.
“It literally brought me to tears a little bit,” Flute said.
