Miami Valley drivers will see an increased presence of state troopers on Interstate 75 this weekend as troopers focus on OVI, speed and safety belt enforcement.
The initiative is expected to take place Friday through Sunday and will be a “high-visibility” enforcement effort by the Ohio Highway Patrol, Kentucky State Police and Michigan State Police, according to a release.
Over 14,000 OVI-related crashes were reported on Ohio roads in 2015 and 390 people were killed in those crashes, troopers said.
“Our troopers look for violations that are proven to increase the likelihood of fatal crashes, including speed, safety belt and OVI,” said Col. Paul Pride with OSP. “The goal is for every motorist in Ohio and our neighboring states to get home safely.”
The project is part of a collaborative effort of the 6-State Trooper Project.
