Son pleads not guilty to murdering father whose severed legs were found in Trotwood

MONTGOMERY COUNTY — Investigators hinted at a possible motive almost 10 months after they found a man’s body parts in Trotwood.

Police believe Edgar Keiter Sr. was killed in Kettering at an apartment he lived in, but officers also found evidence in a Dayton storage unit after the initial grisly discovery in Trotwood.

Court proceedings Thursday mean that Edgar Keiter Jr who walked into court facing only gross abuse of corpse charges is now officially accused of murder.

Keiter Jr. pleaded not guilty.

His bond was set at $1 million.

This case began in April when a Trotwood man discovered severed legs inside a tarp not far from his driveway.

Kettering and Trotwood police searched the victim’s apartment in Kettering a few days later.

Police said in court documents that appliances and carpets had gone missing in the apartment.

Investigators went to a storage facility on Guenther Road a few days later and found the rest of Keiter Sr.’s remains.

Kettering police investigators said Keiter Jr.’s son, Tygan, knew about the crime, along with Keither Jr.’s girlfriend Amanda Reiff.

They are both facing charges in connection to the case.

Keiter Jr.’s trial date has been set for Feb. 4.

Investigators have hinted at a possible money motive for the crime, but have not released new details.
