In Washington Twp., two tornado sirens are currently not working.

“We have the parts on order for both of those sirens. We’re waiting to hear back from the manufacturer and the supplier as to when we can get those parts in and get them fixed,” Kate Trangenstein, Washington Twp. Communications Manager, said.

In Kettering, a city spokesperson said the siren at Acorn Drive and Dorothy Lane malfunction and is in the process of being repaired.

In Darke County, the tornado sirens in Hollansburg didn’t go off when they were tested Monday. Additionally, the sirens in Gettysburg was damaged during the storms overnight on Saturday and cannot be set off remotely, Greenville Police Chief Eric Roberts said.

The sirens in Gettysburg can be set off manually.

Trangenstein told News Center 7 that outdoor warning sirens should “not be your primary way of of learning or finding out about impending weather.” She recommended signing up for weather apps, following local news and media reports and staying “weather aware during severe weather season.”

Roberts suggested going to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office’s website to sign up for Code Red Alerts for cellphones. The same service is offered in Washington Twp.
