The U.S. Air Force honored 100 years of aerial refueling by performing flyovers across the world Tuesday, including in the Miami Valley.

However, because of the smoke in the sky, people could not really see the jets.

“Well, it’s too bad the overcast is so low a ceiling because you didn’t get to see too much of the aircraft,” said Drake Daum. “It just popped in and out. It just popped in and out of the light part of the clouds. We got to see it and we’re glad we’re here.”

There was a refueling tanker and fighter jet crew over the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force.

“Just to see history reenacted, to see the refueling a mission,” said Howard Lebovitz of Beavercreek. “If you don’t pump the gas, then you don’t have the mission. Fighters can’t get to where they need to go.”

The tanker and jet took from Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base outside of Columbus and flew over the Cleveland Browns Stadium, the Ohio Statehouse, and other landmarks.
