5 injured in three-car crash involving ambulance

DAYTON — Two medics were among five people injured when an ambulance was involved in a three-vehicle crash Thursday morning.

The crash happened around 10:26 a.m. at the intersection of South Smithville and Patterson roads. The medic unit involved was taking a patient to the hospital at the time of the crash, according to a release from the Dayton Fire Department.

Two crew members in the medic were injured, but were able to care for the original patient that was being transported along with two other injured people, according to the release.

Five total people were taken to local hospitals ― two medics, the original patient being transported, and one person from each of the other two cars involved. All injuries are considered non-life threatening, according to the release.

Dayton Police are handing the crash investigation.
