Car slams into Springfield building, knocks down utility pole

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield police are investigating a crash that knocked down a utility pole and crashed into a building in Springfield Thursday morning.

The crash was reported on West McCreight Avenue near North Plum Street around 7:50 a.m. Thursday.

In addition to knocking down the utility pole, the car crashed into a corner of a building near the intersection, causing significant damage to the structure.

Injuries were initially reported in the crash however injuries are not believed to be serious, according to police.

Building inspectors from the city engineer’s office are on the scene to check the stability of the structure after the crash, police said. Ohio Edison crews are also on the scene to assess the situation with the downed utility pole.

Police ask drivers to avoid the area while crews assess the damage and make repairs to the utility pole.
