  • Both victims were 16-year-old boys from Xenia
  • Crash was reported around 1:20 p.m.
  • Happened at state Route 235 and Hilltop Road

The two 16-year-old boys killed in the crash were identified Wednesday night as Troy Haney and Jarred Hixson, both of Xenia.

Haney was pronounced dead at the crash scene, as was his passenger, Hixson, who was ejected, troopers said.

Haney was driving a red 2008 Kia Spectra south on state Route 235 that went left of center and struck a gold Mercury Grand Marquis headed north driven by 23-year-old Shelby Mills of Brookville, according to preliminary investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Xenia Post.

Mills was taken to Greene Memorial Hospital to be treated for injuries described as not life-threatening. Her passenger, 4-year-old Madlyan Mills of Brookville, was not hurt.

Mark David, a Xenia Twp. resident, said he heard the sound of a crash, and that about a minute later heard voices. When he opened his door, there were five or six people who had stopped to help the victims, including a nurse.

David said the intersection of state Route 235 and Hilltop Road is dangerous, particularly at night because its pitch black.

“I lived here 15 years and there’s been accidents, at least 10 accidents” in front of his home, he said. “Most of my accidents are caused by somebody just crossing through the stop sign and into my yard.”

Speed appears to be a factor, he said.

“There’s people flying down the hill,” David said.

State Route 235 was shut down in both directions for troopers to investigate the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
