Four people and their pets have been displaced because of a house fire in Harrison Twp. that is believed to have been caused by a discarded cigarette.
The residents told firefighters that a cigarette had been thrown into a trash can in the rear bedroom of the one-story home in the 4900 block of Ross Avenue.

Battalion Chief Terry Overman said crews arrived to find heavy smoke and flames in that back room.
Overman said burn patterns indicate the fire did start in the bedroom and in the trash can, but the investigation is continuing.
The incident was dispatched about 6:50 p.m. as a fire in a one-story dwelling.
He estimated damage to the structure and contents at $15,000 and said the residents would not be able to stay at the house tonight.
A Harrison Twp. firefighter suffered a cut hand when he tried to force open a door, Overman said. That firefighter has been taken to a hospital.
