Report: Man gets counterfeit cash after buying electronics for friend

A local man received a fake $100 bill from a friend after purchasing a television and DVD player for her, according to a Dayton police report.

The man told police that a female friend he has known for five years asked him to buy a 24-inch Philips television and a DVD player at Walmart for her on Saturday, read the report.

The woman reportedly owed him $160 for the purchase and agreed to pay him $100, the man told police. The man went to her house around 4 a.m. Sunday and received the cash.

He later noticed the bill was counterfeit and contacted his friend, but she appeared dumbfounded, according to the report.

Police said the man has attempted to reach out to the woman, but she has not replied.

He could not remember the woman’s exact address, and police could not find a house in the area similar to the description he gave them, read the report.
