Police: Hit-and-run driver got into wrong car before pedestrian strike

DAYTON — A man reportedly ran over a woman with his vehicle after mistakenly getting into her car Sunday afternoon, police say.

Crews were dispatched around 4:15 p.m. to the parking lot of a strip mall at 2917 Linden Ave., according to a Dayton police report. On scene, police spoke with citizens that reportedly witnessed the incident.

Police were told that a man walked from New China Restaurant and entered a car parked in front of Boost Mobile. The victim, and owner of that vehicle, walked out of Subway, and noticed the man inside her car.

She asked why he was in her car and for his name, but he claimed the car was his father’s and refused to give his name. He exited the car, and entered his vehicle. The woman followed, believing that he had stolen her ID card and work badge from the car, read the report.

She told police she opened his driver’s side door to confront him when he put the car in reverse, knocking her over. He then pulled the car forward, running over the woman’s left side, from her ankle to her shoulder, read the report.

She was taken to Miami Valley Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening injuries. It was later discovered that her ID and work badge were in the vehicle, police said.

The suspect vehicle was described as a red, two-door Honda Civic, possibly a 2001 model, with front end damage, read the report.
