UPDATE: Police identify woman killed after being hit by car in Springfield Tuesday

SPRINGFIELD — UPDATE @ 8:45 a.m. (April 8):

Springfield police have identified the woman who was hit by a car, pinned underneath, and later died from her injuries Tuesday.

Meridith K. Rowland, 42, was identified as the person killed in the crash on East High Street and South Belmont Avenue Tuesday afternoon. Rowland was pronounced dead at the scene after the crash.

The driver of the car, who was not identified by police, remained at the scene after the crash and is cooperating with investigators, a Springfield police spokesperson said in a media release Friday morning.

Neither excessive speed or impairment are believed to be factors in the crash.

Additional details were not released.

FIRST REPORT (April 5):

A person was killed after they were hit by a vehicle in Springfield, the third deadly crash in the region Tuesday.

The crash was reported at the intersection of East High Street and South Belmont Avenue in Springfield around 2:40 p.m. Tuesday. Initial reports indicate the crash pinned the victim under the vehicle.

A Springfield police dispatch supervisor confirmed the victim hit by the car was pronounced dead at the scene by medics. The identity of the victim has not been released pending notification of family and further investigation.

Roads around the intersection have been blocked for the crash investigation, police said.

This is the third deadly crash in the Miami Valley since Tuesday morning. A 20-year-old Brookville woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Preble County north of Eaton around 7:50 a.m.

An 8-year-old boy was killed in a Miami County crash around 10:45 a.m. Two other people were seriously injured in the crash which involved a trash truck and a car.
