Coroner identifies victims, suspect in Miami Twp. murder-suicide

UPDATE @ 2:50 p.m. (Feb. 4): Miami Twp. police have identified the 6-year-old boy shot and killed in a murder-suicide on Sagebrook Drive.

Carter Clemons, 6, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Di’eshia Patterson, 27, remains at Kettering Medical Center in critical condition.

Police said Jovonie McClendon Jr., 33, of Miamisburg, said he shot Clemons and Patterson before shooting himself on Facebook Live.

McClendon was pronounced dead at the scene.  He worked for the U.S. Postal Service at the Washington Twp. branch and had previously been employed by the U.S. Army, township officials said.

A man who described himself as an Army veteran is believed to have shot his girlfriend and her son in a Miami Twp. apartment, then called 911 to report that he killed two people before shooting himself to death.

UPDATE @ 4:05 p.m.: A 33-year-old man who described himself as an Army veteran is believed to have shot his girlfriend and killed her son in a murder-suicide at a Miami Twp. apartment Friday morning.

Miami Twp. police have not released the names of the people involved, but said they found the man and the boy, 5, dead, and the 27-year-old woman wounded just after 11:30 a.m.

Police Chief Ron Hess said Montgomery County Regional Dispatch received a call just before the discovery, from a man who said he planned to kill his girlfriend, her son and himself.

"We believe as soon as he called regional dispatch... he shot himself," Hess said.

Friday evening, the woman was in critical condition at Kettering Medical Center, the chief said.

All three lived at the apartment at Preserve of Sagebrook, off Spring Valley Drive, he said.

Miami Twp. police have no history with the man or the address in recent years.

"This is tragic for everybody," Hess said.

A series of calls were made to regional dispatch after the initial one by the suspected shooter. Several Miami Twp. and units from Washington Twp. responded, Hess said. Police evacuated two nearby apartments before entering the residence, Hess said.

Hess called the incident "a fluid and ongoing investigation," declining to release any details about the type of weapon used or how many times the woman and boy were shot.

He said police will investigate the background of those involved, speak with neighbors and co-workers of the man and woman "and see what that brings to light."

EARLIER: 911 CALLS TELL OF GRISLY INCIDENT

This news organization obtained a 911 call from the suspected shooter.

“I just killed my girlfriend and her son and I’m about to kill myself,” he told a 911 operator. “I’m just saying I’m sorry.”

Another 911 caller said the shooting happened on Facebook live.

“My friend just killed himself on Facebook,” she said in the call. “He called me and told me he was going to and then he said he’d get on Facebook live. I got on Facebook live and he did it online.”

In emergency radio traffic, a dispatcher told officers at the scene: “We are being told from a third party that is watching the Facebook Live that he did just shoot himself.”

Officers on scene said they did not hear any noise at that time.

Several other people, including the suspect’s mother, also called 911.

“He just called me a minute ago and said that he loved us and that he killed his girlfriend and her baby,” the suspect’s mother told an operator.

In still another call to 911, a woman said, “My son’s dad just killed his girlfriend and her son.... He just put the gun to his head and hung up the phone.”
