Woman found shot to death on Dayton street identified

DAYTON — An observant RTA bus driver spotted a woman lying in a Dayton street, who police said appeared to have been shot to death.

Korena L. Burney, 18, of Dayton, was found dead in the area of Lakeview and Lakeside drives around 8:45 a.m. Thursday

Homicide detectives were called in to investigate the shooting.

“We do not know how long this person was here,” said Sgt. Creigee S. Coleman with Dayton “She does have a wound to the upper torso.”

Detectives are working to determine how Burney’s body ended up in the area and who she may have been with prior to being shot.

“Hopefully somebody saw something,” Coleman said.
