Pedestrian killed after being struck by pickup truck in Mercer County

MERCER COUNTY — Deputies were called to investigate a fatal accident after a pedestrian was struck by a pickup truck in Mercer County Saturday morning.

Central Dispatch received a 911 call reporting the crash at 7:38 a.m. near 2301 Rolfes Road, according to a release from the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation found that a 65-year-old man was driving a Chevy pickup truck eastbound on Rolfes Road when he struck the pedestrian who was walking east on Rolfes Road in the eastbound lane.

The driver reported that due to the rising sun, he did not see the victim in the roadway.

The sheriff’s office identified the victim as 74-year-old Vernon Bruns of Maria Stein, Ohio.

Bruns was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was not injured in the accident.

The crash is still under investigation at this time, according to the sheriff’s office.
