2 barns a total loss after blazing fire at Berryhill Farm in Greene County

UPDATE @ 4:30 p.m. (Dec. 2):

There were no injuries from the barn fire at the family owned Berryhill Farm that occurred Saturday morning in the 300 block of E. Krepps Rd, according to a family member.

The barn housed a dog and several cats, but no livestock were in the barn. All animals were accounted for and made it out safe.

The items lost include farm implements, two farm tractors (one vintage), a yard tractor, small mowers, chain saws, blowers, weed whips, other tools and equipment, and other personal items stored in a barn office.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, said the family member.

The barns are a total loss, but the damage estimate is unknown because two structures were destroyed, including a 150-year-old barn. The house and a new vehicle parked next to the barn also sustained damages due to the intense heat from the barn.

This family suffered the loss of their home to a fire at this same location in February 2000.

“To suffer two such devastating losses in a lifetime is very tough but we are determined to carry on,” the family member said. “Hopefully we can rebuild and replace quickly because Berryhill Farm depends on the equipment that was lost. It was a very scary day.”

FIRST REPORT:

A barn fire occurred Saturday morning in the 300 block of E. Krepps Road.

According to initial reports, heavy smoke was showing from the barn around 11:45 a.m.

It is unknown on the cause or if there were any injuries.

A passerby, Rod Anderson, took video of the barn as it was bursting in flames.
