Natural gas leak forcing partial closure of Austin Boulevard caused by private company

WASHINGTON TWP. — UPDATE @ 4:22 p.m. (June 6): Crews on scene have confirmed that the natural gas leak was caused by a private company.

The company was reportedly laying down fiber-optics for a commercial operation when the gas line was hit.

The gas line is associated with a single residence.

Austin Boulevard between Washington Church Road and Yankee Road is still closed.

INITIAL REPORT: Fire crews and deputies are blocking a portion of Austin Boulevard in Washington Twp. due to a natural gas leak.

The leak was reported around 3 p.m. after a contractor digging in the area struck the gas line, according to dispatch records.

Deputies are blocking Austin Boulevard between Washington Church Road and Yankee Road until repairs can be made.

There have been no immediate reports of injuries or evacuations.
