Ohio house passes bill to prevent pandemic business shutdowns

COLUMBUS — The Ohio House passed legislation Wednesday that would prevent Gov. Mike DeWine and the Ohio Department of Health from shutting down the state’s businesses due to coronavirus, according to our affiliate 10TV in Columbus.

The bill passed by a vote of 75-11 and heads to the Senate for a vote. DeWine has said he will veto the bill.

“This is certainly not the right time to be trying to diminish public health in the state of Ohio. This is a direct attack on public health. It’s a direct attack on the safety of the people of the state of Ohio,” DeWine told 10TV Wednesday.

“This is the most serious health crisis in 100 years and for members of the state legislature to pick this time to say ‘Oh no, we can’t do certain things, we can’t protect the people of the state of Ohio’ is just horribly misguided,” he said.

An online schedule shows the Ohio Senate will be back in session on Dec. 2.
