Police on the scene told News Center 7 that the bus was picking up students at the Gem City Mobile Home Park when a car hit it in the front driver’s side wheel area.
The car that reportedly hit the bus ended up hitting a mobile home in the park, our News Center 7 crew at the scene reported.
“I grabbed my granddaughter and pulled her back so fast,” Nancy Collins said. “I thought we were going to get hit.”
Kettering City Schools confirmed that the bus involved was transporting students to Southdale Elementary, which is a K-5 building.
Minor injuries were reported to students and the bus driver.
“Injuries did not require transport to the hospital, however our School nurse followed up with the students when they arrived at school and parents were notified,” a district spokesperson said.
As reported on News Center 7 at 5:00, Collins and neighbors said the driver of the car told them he and his wife were taking their grandson to school. Collins, who said this was not the first time there have been issues with passing drivers, wonders why the school bus stops for pick-ups on a busy road like Dryden Road.
“We need something safer, they need to find another bus stop,” Collins said. “There’s a bus that comes into the trailer park, we’re just wondering why they can’t. They can come into the trailer park like the other one does.”
News Center 7 also called and emailed the Kettering District office on Thursday morning to ask if there have been previous complaints about the bus stop location. We have not received a response at the time of this report.
Moraine Police confirmed the driver of the car involved was cited. We’re working to learn for what specifically and if they were injured in the crash.
