Maj. Brian Johns, of Dayton Police, said an initial investigation showed that three vehicles carrying people who all knew each other were going west on U.S. 35 when a fourth vehicle caught up and someone opened fire on the three vehicles.

Police believe occupants of two of the three vehicles shot at were hit, including Ogburn and a passenger.

Police found Ogburn with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was transported to Miami Valley Hospital, where he later died.

The two others shot suffered minor injuries, according to Johns.

When asked if the shooting was the result of road rage, Johns said “it does not appear to be that way.” As reported on News Center 7 at 5:00, he also said it didn’t appear to be random.

“At this point, we don’t know the reason behind the attack so we’re still trying to investigate, find that video, and stuff like that,” Johns said.

Dayton police shut down the highway for a couple of hours between 1 and 3 a.m. They then shut it down a second time around 5:30 a.m. They wanted to recover any potential evidence they could that would bring them to the person responsible for this deadly shooting.

“We’re actually investigating using all types of cameras, ODOT, and private citizens,” Johns explained.

Anyone with information on the shooting or the suspect is asked to contact Dayton Police at (937) 333-COPS (2677) or Miami Valley Crime Stoppers at (937) 222-STOP (7867) or www.miamivalleycrimestoppers.com.
