MIAMISBURG — There is one sound you may not expect to attract cicadas and that’s your lawnmower.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources of Forestry’s Tom Macy told News Center 7′s Michael Gordon that the sound of a lawnmower can actually attract cicadas.
“The frequency of lawnmowers can actually somehow seem similar to a cicada’s call to other cicadas,” Macy said.

its not just lawnmowers; weed whackers and hedge trimmers could also attract cicadas.
Marty Grunder, president of Grunder Landscaping Company, said he witnesses that to be true 17 years ago.
“I know 17 years ago, when we had them, we were running hedge trimmers and they went on those gas hedge trimmers so there is some truth to that,” Grunder said.
While the clean-up after may be a nuisance, Grunder said to not let the potential of attracting cicadas stop you from mowing your lawn.
