Oakwood to offer school-sponsored Jr. high boys, girls high school lacrosse

The Oakwood School District is adding girls high school and boys junior high lacrosse as school-sponsored sports in the 2017-18 school year.

The school board on Monday night voted 5-0 to add the school-sponsored sports, Traci Hale, district community relations director, said in a prepared statement.

Groups must participate in a three-year assessment, demonstratinv continued growth, interest and expertise in the sport to become a school-sponsored sport.

"This is a reflection of the growing participation and interest in Oakwood in lacrosse and we look forward to watching our student athletes participate and represent our school as a school-sponsored sport," Athletic Director Laura Connor said.

"Thank you to all the players, parents and coaches that worked so tirelessly to promote and build the lacrosse during the years as a club," she said.

According Hale, the school has offered lacrosse as a club sport for three years.

No coach has been chosen, she said.
