New housing development may come to Wright Dunbar

DAYTON — A new housing development may be in the works in the historic Wright Dunbar neighborhood.

A private meeting is planned tonight between a developer and the Wright Dunbar Homeowners Association to discuss possible plans for a residential development.

News Center 7’s James Rider spoke with Charles Simms of Simms Development this morning.

Simms didn’t want to talk ahead of tonight’s meeting, but said things are very preliminary at the moment.

The city still owns the land where any development may take place. Two years ago the city said it was willing to sell the vacant lots to an experienced builder for a dollar for a residential development.

Rider also spoke to businesses in the Wright Dunbar district, but they didn’t know enough about these early discussions to comment.

We will continue to update this story as we learn more about any potential development.
