Motorcyclist suffers life-threating injuries after crash on NB I-75 in Miami County Monday

MIAMI COUNTY — A Florida man suffered serious injuries and was flown to a Dayton hospital after a crash involving a motorcycle on I-75 in Miami County on Memorial Day.

The crash happened around 4:15 p.m. on northbound I-75 between the state Route 41 and County Road 25A exits, north of Troy, state troopers told News Center 7 Tuesday.

Donald Weddle, 48, of Sanderson, Florida, was identified as the motorcyclist seriously injured in the crash, a spokesperson for the Ohio State Highway Patrol said in an emailed statement.

Weddle operating a motorcycle and was traveling behind a Ford SUV driven by a 42-year-old Kettering man on I-75 North. The SUV started to brake for slower traffic ahead when Weddle swerved to avoid the slowing SUV, state troopers said.

Weddle hit the back of the SUV which caused the motorcycle to overturn. He was flown to Miami Valley Hospital by a CareFlight medical helicopter with injuries described as life-threatening, state troopers said. The helicopter was called to land on I-75, which prompted a lengthy closure on the highway Monday.

Weddle’s current condition was not immediately known.

The driver of the SUV and two passengers inside were not hurt in the crash.

Potential factors in the crash were not released and the crash remains under investigation by the Piqua Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
