Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office partners with social network to increase neighborhood safety

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office has partnered with the social network Nextdoor, Sheriff Rob Streck announced Tuesday.

Nextdoor is used to improve neighborhood communications and provide safety information for residents.

This partnership will enable the sheriff’s office to share important safety updates, emergency notifications, news, services and programs.

“Having the ability to easily communicate with residents is extremely vital to increasing safety and reducing crime within our communities,” Streck said. “With Nextdoor, we can help empower neighbors to keep their communities safe and give them the ability to collaborate on virtual neighborhood watch efforts.”

Nextdoor is free for residents and each neighborhood has its own website, accessible to only residents of that area. The sheriff’s office cannot access residents’ websites, contact information or content.

Residents interested in joining can visit www.nextdoor.com and enter their address. All members must verify they live within the neighborhood before joining.
