Passenger dies from injuries in Miami County crash; driver hospitalized

MIAMI COUNTY — UPDATE @ 8:30 a.m. (Oct. 9): 

A Troy man seriously injured after a crash in Miami County Monday has died from his injuries, according to investigators.

Roy Staten III, 51, was the passenger in the van when it crashed into two trees near the intersection of County Road 25-A and Boone Drive.

Staten was taken to Miami Valley Hospital by medical helicopter but died from his injuries, deputies confirmed Tuesday morning.

The driver of the van, John Martin Robbins, 49, of Troy, suffered serious injuries in the crash and was also transported by a medical helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital.

Both Staten and Robbins were ejected from the van in the crash, deputies said.

Alcohol and drugs are believed to be factors in the crash, according to deputies.

Two people have been injured after a car crashed into two trees near a Miami County home Monday afternoon.

At least one of the victims was transported to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton by a CareFlight medical helicopter. The conditions of both victims were not immediately available.

The car slammed into two trees near the home at the intersection of County Road 25-A and Boone Drive, but did not hit the structure, updating initial reports.

FIRST REPORT

Serious injuries have been reported after a vehicle crashed into a house south of Troy Monday afternoon.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the intersection of Boone Drive and County Road 25A around 12:30 p.m. after the crash was reported.

A CareFlight medical helicopter has been requested to the scene.
