“I was looking for housing and there is like a guy laying here,” a woman who called 911 said. “I don’t know who this boy is, but Lord Jesus somebody come help him.”

Police said Shoecraft had been shot several hours before he was found by the woman. The woman told 911 dispatchers she didn’t see any blood near Shoecraft.

Balloons and a stuffed bear were attached Thursday morning to the fence near where Shoecraft was found.

“The Homicide Unit responded to initiate an investigation into Mr. Shoecraft’s death and are currently examining evidence collected from the scene,” Dayton police said in a statement.

Investigators are working to figure out who the shooter may have been in the homicide.
