Man loses leg in farming accident

A man lost part of his leg today after an apparent farming accident in Shelby County.

Robert Quinter, 42, was using a tractor and mixer to feed cattle this morning when investigators say his left leg became entangled in the tractor's power take-off.

The accident caused Quinter's leg to be amputated below the knee, Sheriff John Lenhart said in a statement.

Emergency crews were dispatched just after 10 a.m. to the 5800 block of Fort Recovery Road.

Lenhart said despite Quinter's injury, he was able to get back to his vehicle and eventually 911 was called by residents of a nearby home.

Quinter was taken to Wilson Memorial Hospital by Fort Loramie rescue workers and was eventually flown by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital.
