Man who ran from Dayton garage where 2 teens were fatally shot remains jailed

A third teenager accused of trespassing on a man’s property before two other teens were shot and killed, remains booked in the Montgomery County Jail on Friday, according to online records.

Jashin Gregory Gibson, 19, was arrested at the same Conners Street address where two teens died after trespassing onto the homeowner’s property, jail records show.

Gibson is being detained on a probation violation and a preliminary charge of breaking and entering.

Thursday, Dayton Police Chief Richard Biehl said a third person was with Devin Henderson and Javier Harrison, both 17 and of Dayton, when the property owner fired shots at them.

The third person, who jail records indicate is Gibson, ran when the shots were fired but returned after seeing the police and medic response, Biehl said.

Previously, Biehl said the investigation so far has revealed the property owner fired multiple shots from a .38-caliber revolver when he encountered three individuals in the detached garage of his home in the 800 block of Conners Street on Wednesday night.

The garage was not secured. The three were in a car. The man heard voices and noises coming from the garage and went outside, armed, to see what was going on, the chief said.

“There was some drug activity occurring at that time” when the encounter occurred, Biehl said, “but exactly what they were doing, intending to do, is not clear.”

Biehl said he’s sure the three boys knew each other but beyond that police don’t know the nature of their relationship.

The identity of the man who fired the shots has not been released.

While the investigation is ongoing, Biehl said it is now the job of the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office to prove that the deadly shooting was a criminal act and was not done in self-defense.
