That person died from their injuries, a Springfield Police crash report confirms.

A car was traveling on the State Route 40 overpass while a person was attempting to cross East Main Street outside of the marked crosswalk, the crash reports states.

The car continued eastbound and approached East Main Street then hit a 45-year-old man crossing the road, causing deadly injuries.

The man hit was taken to Springfield Regional Medical Center, the crash report states.

“I just hit a guy crossing the street,” a caller tells dispatchers in a 911 call obtained by News Center 7.

The man tells the dispatcher that he can see the man he hit laying on the ground.

“He’s breathing but not moving,” the caller said.

He tells the dispatcher the man walked “right out in front of him.”

The roadway was closed for over 3 hours as crews investigated.

News Center 7 has decided not to name the man who died at this time as it is not known if next of kin has been notified.

The crash remains under investigation by Springfield Police Department.

We will update this story as we get new information.
