EATON — The Mississippi man accused of murdering a woman in Preble County was in court on Wednesday and asked a judge to lower his bond.

LaDavid Shaw is facing several charges, including murder, in connection with the killing of 36-year-old Shanae Robinson.

It happened at a Petro Truck Stop in New Paris, near the Ohio-Indiana border, where deputies say Shaw admitted to strangling Robinson “because she would not ‘shut up’” and then crashing his semi in an attempt to cover up her death.

New court documents obtained by News Center 7 state Shaw went into the truck stop and showered in order to remove evidence.
Preble County Sheriff Mike Simpson told News Center 7’s John Bedell that detectives believe Shaw and Robinson knew each other. They just don’t know exactly how yet.
“I think there must have been some relationship there, meaning whether they were just friends or whatever, to the point where she was a truck with him,” Simpson said.
Once deputies discovered the body and placed him under arrest, Shaw became aggressive and had to be tased multiple times, according to a criminal complaint filed in Eaton Municipal Court.
Eaton Municipal Court Judge Edmund H. Kalil denied Shaw’s request to have his bond lowered. He remains booked in the Preble County Jail on a $1 million bond.
Kalil said he considers Shaw a flight risk since he’s a trucker who knows his way around the country. He also considers him a public safety risk as a murder suspect, and cited his criminal past, which prosecutors brought up in open court on Wednesday.
“It is not his first time. He’s been charged with capital murder and convicted of manslaughter,” Eric Marit, Preble County Prosecuting Attorney, said.
As shown on News Center 7 at 5:00, state court records from Mississippi show that Shaw was originally charged with capital murder in the spring of 2007. He pleaded to a lesser charge of manslaughter before a judge sent him to prison in Mississippi in 2008.
Shaw was sentenced on March 7, 2008, to 20 years for manslaughter, according to the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
He was released on earned release supervision on Feb. 24, 2017, and currently he has no probation to follow, state prison officials in Mississippi told News Center 7.
In speaking with his lawyer during the hearing on Wednesday, Shaw could be heard mentioning his previous conviction.
“When it came to my previous charges, I plead guilty to those, and I stood before a court of law, and I did my time,” Shaw could be heard saying. “I’m not a flight risk.”
Prosecutors plan to present their case against Shaw to a grand jury in Preble County on Monday.
