Mail carriers to collect donations during annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive

DAYTON — The National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) is gearing up for the largest single-day food drive in the country.

The NALC will collect donations of non-perishable food items on Saturday, May 13 as part of its Stamp Out Hunger food drive.

Stamp Out Hunger allows residents to donate from their own homes. Food items can be bagged and placed in or near a person’s mailbox before the normal delivery time of their mail on May 13.

The donations collected from the Greater Dayton area will benefit The Foodbank, Inc., as well as its network of partner agencies.

Michelle Riley, CEO of The Foodbank, Inc., said that the food drive is coming “at a very crucial time.”

“Persistent inflation, high food costs, and the end of the SNAP emergency allotments have driven many families and seniors into our lines. These donations will make a big difference to the people who receive them,” Riley said in a release.

Items collected during the May 13 food drive will be inspected, sorted and distributed to nearly 120 partner agencies in Montgomery, Greene and Preble counties.
