Local ride share service anticipates surge, hires drivers amid businesses reopening

A Springfield-based ride share service is hiring drivers ahead of an anticipated surge in business this weekend.

For several weeks, Your Ride Home, has had a challenging time finding rides for the company’s drivers. An estimated 80 percent of the ride share’s business comes from people going to and from bars and restaurants.

“We’ve offered discounted rides for people to the pharmacy or the grocery store or doctor’s office,” said Your Ride Home owner Bill Perdue, when asked how he’s adjusted to the lack of business.

But Perdue is optimistic that business will take a turn for the better come this weekend, as bars and restaurants gradually reopen doors to customers.

Perdue said he’s already had bar owners and restaurants in the company’s service area of Springfield and Urbana contact him to ask if the ride share service would be ready to handle an expected rush of people.

“When people come out to party, we all know that they’re gonna come out and party hard -- so we wanna make sure that they’re safe,” he said.

Your Ride Home is looking to hire drivers -- Perdue says as many as 10.

In addition to hiring more employees, there is also a plastic barrier that’s been installed in driver’s vehicles between the the back seat and the front seats. Every vehicle is also heavily disinfected in between each ride.

Those interested in applying to be a Your Ride Home driver must have reliable transportation and enjoy working with people. Hours are flexible. Call 937-709-4667 to set up an interview.
