Local organization offers free produce in Trotwood

TROTWOOD — Trotwood residents were able to get free produce today thanks to a local nonprofit.

Access to Excess set up a free market outside of the Dayton Metro Library’s Trotwood branch, on E. Main Street, Sunday evening to offer produce to those in need.

The organization rescues unwanted, ripe, bruised, extra fruits and vegetables before they go bad and makes them available to people with limited access to healthy food options, according to their website.

They get they produce from places such as grocery stores, farms, home-growers and other non-profits.

The organization sets up free markets every Sunday in the community at 5 p.m., according to their Facebook page.

There are no qualifications required to get produce. All patrons are asked to bring their own bags.
