Local Marine remembers, honors friends lost in combat

Everyone remembers those who lost their lives serving in the armed forces in their own way.

A manager at Breakout Dayton, an escape room, says he doesn’t get to take Memorial Day off, but he wouldn’t have it any other way.

“There’s a lot of guys that, they’re not able to work because they’ve already done their share, they’ve done their job. So I do not mind working today at all. I’m very happy to work today,” said Mac McMurchy.

McMurchy served in the Marines for 18 years, seven months and seven days. He lost several friends in combat and today he honors those that paid the price.

“I think the best way to do that is to do the things that they can no longer do. Go to the places they can no longer go.”

After work, McMurchy is going to the cemetery to visit his friends tombstone to honor him.

“It’s kind of a reminder for those who do come that this person is remembered,” he said. “It’s hard knowing that they will never get another day like this. That their families will never get another day like this with them.”
