MIAMI VALLEY — There have not been a lot of Super Bowl parties over the last two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but that will not be the case this year After a drought spanning more than 30 years, Bengals fans are gearing up to celebrate this Sunday.
In grocery stores across the Miami Valley, Bengals fans like Amy MacPherson are stocking up for their Super Bowl viewing parties.
MacPherson said she would be having a small viewing party with her family. They feel comfortable with their Super Bowl plans.

“Everyone that’s been in our bubble, some are triple [vaccinated] and some are [vaccinated], and some have had [Covid] and recovered,” MacPherson said.
Dr. Joseph Allen, Regional Director at Premier Health, said we did see a surge of Covid cases after the holidays. He said he knows many of these parties will have more people at them then recent holiday gatherings.
“These will be much larger gatherings than maybe what we’d see for the holidays, where it was close family and maybe some friends here and there,” Allen said.
He told News Center 7′s Mike Campbell that he thinks we are in a better spot, even now with high vaccination rates and more people recovered from infections. Still, he said some people will be very open with their parties, while others may require masks or wear them when they attend. Some, he said, may decide to sit out the parties altogether.

Allen said the key is to communicate.
“But if I was planning to attend that, I’d be sure to know what they were asking and what he expectations are,” Allen said.
Some fans said they plan to take Covid precautions, but most fans said they are expecting a great time and a Bengals victory.
“Joe Burrow, he’s such a young guy. He’s so talented, " MacPherson said.
Doctors said they are hopeful there will not be a surge of hospitalizations after the Super Bowl like the was after Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s.
