Local businessman facing criminal charge among interviewees for vacant Bellbrook school board seat

BELLBROOK — A local jewelry store owner accused of pulling a gun on a group of golfers is one of ten people being interviewed for a vacant Bellbrook-Sugarcreek school board seat.

John Stafford, 63, of Sugarcreek Twp., was arrested last week and charged with aggravated menacing following an incident at Sugar Valley Golf Club.

Stafford and the nine other candidates who applied for the position will be interviewed during a special board meeting on June 8 at 4 p.m., the district said in an announcement this morning.

“The Board decided to interview all applicants that applied and will compile all of the information and facts when making a decision on filling the open position,” Bellbrook Superintendent Doug Cozad said in a statement.

The candidates are interviewing for the position left vacated by Karen Long, when she resigned from the board last month.

Once a new member is appointed, the majority of the Bellbrook-Sugarcreek school board will be non-elected officials until November, when several board seats will be up for election.
