Humane Society of Greater Dayton’s holds ‘Name Your Own Price’ adoption event today.

DAYTON — On Saturday August, 18, the Humane Society of Greater Dayton will be hosting its second Name Your Own Price (up to 50% off) adoption event.

The event will run from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. and will be held at the Humane Society's main location, 1661 Nicholas Road in Dayton.

Brian Weltge, President and CEO of the Dayton Humane Society stated, “During the summer months we are inundated with animals trying to find their forever homes. This exciting adoption event will help us clear the shelters and find forever homes for pets in need. This also means we can welcome more pets into our facility and in turn help impact the lives of additional animals in our community.”

Lines may be long the day of the event so, to make the process as easy as possible, the Humane Society of Greater Dayton recommends anyone interested in adopting bring with them:

• Your most up-to-date veterinarian records for all pets in your home
• If you rent, a copy of your lease showing that you are permitted to have pets in your home
• A filled out adoption application (optional), which can be found online at www.hsdayton.org/adopt.

The shelter had approximately 100 animals including dogs, cats, rabbits and ferrets at the start of the event, according to Marketing and Public Relations Manager for the Humane Society of Great Dayton Jessica Garringer.

“It’s a huge event because it gets people out here and makes them aware of all the different types of animals we have,” said Garringer.

The  Humane Society of Greater Dayton receives no government funding and relies solely on the donations of individuals, companies and grants to run the programs and services it offers to the community.

They are dedicated to building loving relationships between people and pets. Founded 116 years ago, it is the largest and most-established no-kill animal welfare agency in the area. It focuses on pet adoptions, eliminating pet overpopulation, providing education and ensuring the humane treatment of animals.
