How a new application makes it easier to apply to college, share transcripts

DAYTON — Transferring to a new university or returning to college after an absence can be a difficult and confusing process.

The University of Dayton is working to make the transition easier by using the new Common Application for Transfer.

“Until now, the application has been designed with traditional students coming out of high school in mind,” said Julia Thompson, associate director of admission and financial aid, in a news release. “Our transfer students come in with more life experience, work experience and broad academic backgrounds. The redesigned application removes a lot of barriers for them. It allows them to truly tell us who they are as a student and as an individual, which shows we value who they are as well.”

The redesigned application will make it easier to collect transcripts and recommendations, input relevant courses, and include work and volunteer experience.

The Common Application is used by 750 institutions around the globe.

U.D. is among nine early-adopters of the new redesigned Common Application. It will be launched for the 2018-2019 school year.

News Center 7 consumer reporter Rachel Murray will find out what you need to know about the New Common App and how it will help transferring and returning college students.
