URBANA — History and military enthusiasts were treated to an unforgettable experience on Monday by getting to be up close and personal with a C-47 that flew during WWII.

The plane known as “That’s All, Brother” has been restored to the same condition it was in during 1944, including the paint scheme it had for D-Day.

Veterans, history lovers, and aviation fans alike got their chance to watch the plane in action at the Grimes Field Airport, and some were even lucky enough to climb aboard and experience rides for themselves.

Edie Dice says his grandfather was a paratrooper in WWII, which is who got him into aviation and the history.

Dice was excited for his turn aboard the historic plane, but his favorite part could be enjoyed from outside of the plane as well.

“One of the best things out there is seeing the start up. Seeing the prop start turning, seeing the smoke come out, the smell of gas coming out of it, it smells wonderful,” Dice said.

Dice and his mother both said it made them feel connected to his grandfather.

Many of the people in awe of the plane explained how these are harder and harder to see, and it’s even more rare how it is painted.

The plane will be staying in Ohio just long enough to be part of Pee Wee’s Jump Fest celebrating WWII Veteran Pee Wee Martin’s 100th birthday this weekend in Greene County starting on Thursday.
