2 dogs rescued, 1 dies in Union house fire

UNION — An off-duty firefighter was able to rescue two dogs from a burning home on Marrett Farm Road before on-duty fire crews arrived this afternoon.

Firefighters responded to the fire in the 100 block of Marrett Farm around noon Thursday.

There were no injuries to anyone living at the home, but one dog was unable to be rescued and died in the fire, said Union Assistant Fire Chief Zach Marvin.

Marvin said the house will likely be a total loss for the homeowners and they are still working to determine how it started.

When firefighters arrived flames were coming from the back of the house.

The high heat index created the need for extra personnel to respond to the scene, so crews could be rotated.
