Healthy food market being built in West Dayton recieves $150k in funding

DAYTON — A “pharmacy style” healthy food market being built in West Dayton has received thousands in funding from Montgomery County.

“Healthy Family Market” is currently being built in the 2000 block of Germantown Street, according to the market’s Facebook page.

At a fundraising event on July 15, County Commissioner Judy Dodge said Montgomery County is going to invest $150,000 into the business.

“I grew up in Desoto Bass and it was those community neighbors who made me who I am. Our kids deserve the same from us.” Robbie Brandon, Founder of Sunlight Village, Inc. said on social media.

Currently, 75,000 people in Montgomery County struggle with food insecurity, according to Healthy Family Market.

The market said they hope to increase the availability of healthy, affordable, local foods to the community.
