Montgomery County Fair sees crowds in the thousands as COVID cases spike

MONTGOMERY COUNTY — This year’s Montgomery County Fair came to a close Saturday as COVID-19 cases in the county are ramping up.

Organizers said they expected to break last year’s attendance of 27,000 people.

“We just came to have fun, you know get out the house,” Kyndal Fuqua said.

For some, COVID was still in the back of their minds.

“As long as I have my mask on, yeah I’m comfortable. But if I came out without my mask on, I would be concerned,” Karen Archie said.

With the county now considered to have a high community transmission level, health officials recommended people wear masks indoors.

While the fair does have an indoor venue, fair organizers gave fairgoers the choice to take whatever precautions they want.

“It’s predominantly outdoors and I think everybody is used to kind of staying their distance and all that,” Mark Jimison, Montgomery County Agricultural Society president said.

Now that fair season is well underway, some aren’t letting COVID deter them.

“Even though COVID is still here, we still have to live life,” Janae Cain said.

News Center 7 previously reported that Greene County also has a high transmission risk level for COVID.

Their county fair is set to start at the end of July.
