DAYTON — At the start of every new year, thousands of people look for ways to better their health, and taking the stairs can help them better their health.

Today, January 11, is National Take the Stairs Day, and the American Lung Association is encouraging everyone to take the stairs.

The association’s website says taking the stares could provide some health benefits such as:

  • Improves balance and coordination.
  • Strengthens more major muscles, including your glutes.
  • Consistent stair climbing as a daily activity helps lower mortality risk

Day Air Ballpark is planning to host the Fight for Air Climb later this year, and the community can register for it now.

On May 20, teams will be able to participate in a race to the top or a walk around the warning track.

Participants will be able to race up the 900+ steps of Day Air Ballpark, according to the American Lung Association’s website.

Those choosing to walk will have the opportunity to earn an event shirt and medal if they raise at least $100.
