Almost 200 imposter scams reported in Ohio last year; Which ones should you look out for?

OHIO — The Federal Trade Commission reported 183 imposter scams in Ohio last year.

Imposter scams happen when a person pretends to be someone else to steal money or personal information.

There are five types of imposter scams in particular that the FTC says people should be aware of.

Utility companies, phony texts or phishing scams, IRS imposters, emergency scams and tech support scams.

The Better Business Bureau says to never give out personal information. Instead, report the scam with the BBB.
