Former referee’s teen sex trial delayed in Miami County

TROY — A Miami County trial for a Troy man and former Ohio High School Athletic Association official charged with rape was continued late Monday until September.

The jury trial for Henry A. Lucas, 53, was scheduled to begin Tuesday, July 24, in Common Pleas Court. It was continued at the request of defense lawyer Kevin Lennen, who wanted to review records he had just learned existed, said Paul Watkins, assistant county prosecutor.

Lucas is accused of sexual conduct involving a teenage girl in Troy in March 2017 and attempting to alter evidence against him. He has pleaded not guilty. The new trial date is Sept. 25 and 26.

Lucas is free after posting bail.

Lucas was a longtime official for the OHSAA. His license was suspended following his arrest last year.
